Things you might want to know...
Over the time we have been in business we have come across questions which always seem to come up when people are thinking about deploying Speed-Trap technology to instrument their sites or applications and get access to our unique "complete customer insight".
If the following answers do not address your question then please get in touch.
Q. How can I buy Speed-Trap Solutions?
A. Speed-Trap solutions can be purchased from Speed-Trap directly in the UK, or via our partners and resellers around the world.
UK: IS Solutions, Marketing Data Basics, Teradata, BIMA Consulting, Detica, Atos Consulting, SAS Institute
USA: Zencos, SAS Institute
World-Wide: SAS Institute
Benelux: OnMarc
France: BIMA Consulting, Atos Consulting
Southern Africa: Telecom Southern Networking
Scandinavia: Regardit
Q. How long does it take to implement?
A. Zero touch/single touch implementation. This is perhaps one of the biggest strengths of a Speed-Trap solution - the single change to the site, or configuration of your network systems can instrument a complete site in seconds - and you can instantly have all the information you will need.
ASP or in-house. Clearly choosing an ASP service will speed deployment, but even if you decide to deploy a system in-house on your own servers you should be up and running in a single day. If you lack the IT or marketing resources to undertake the implementation then perhaps one of our partners can help.
Pre-designed datamodels. Our pre-designed data models also speed deployment, as the reporting systems will be ready to go as soon as data collection commences and you will have data 5 minutes later, and integration into your broader CRM and marketing systems or data warehouses will be quick and simple too. See this page for more information on the technical benefits of our approach.
Q. How soon would I get useful results?
A. 5 minutes after you start collection.
Most customers complete their implementation within 2 to 3 weeks (including installation, workshops to define analysis, configuration and reporting). However, we think that the process of truly understanding your customers is a longer term mission and you will find that Speed-Trap's Customer Insight Platform will play a major part in this journey, providing a constant source of accurate detailed information that can be deployed to support many different applications, each increasing your return on your investment in our technology.
Q. Isn't there too much data?
A. Not a technology issue. This is very much a state-of-mind issue, not a technology one! Can you really ever know too much about your customer and business? Yes there is a lot of data, for example working with one of the world's major international airlines we were capturing over a terabyte a month of raw data. But today terabyte drives cost about $100, and a pair of dual Xeon servers have no difficulty in capturing and processing all the data from a site like this.
Answer the questions you are yet to have. The real benefit of Speed-Trap's "Total Information" environment is that you will automatically have all the data you need to answer the questions you are yet to frame. When something changes and you need to undertake a more detailed analysis of yesterday's, last week's or last month's customer behavior or site performance - all the raw data is there immediately to support your investigation.
Q. Doesn't your technology slow the site?
A. Faster not slower. While clearly there are "no free lunches", and our systems require you to include our Dynamic Collection's CSA in the pages, and this code uses CPU cycles to implement, practical implementations show that actually our systems can improve site performance!
Better site performance. Because the CSA cached by the client browser, the page load time experienced by the user is virtually unchanged or lowered as the overhead of traditional tagging systems is avoided. Live testing by several customers on large international sites has shown that it is not possible to detect any difference in the customer's experience when Speed-Trap's systems are deployed.
We will help you manage your site's performance. The fact that our systems are measuring the visitor's exact experience (including page load times and business process performance) at their browser our systems are able to alert your operations teams when performance problems emerge via instant SMS or e-mail, in real-time. This means that most customers discover that Speed-Trap is able to improve both performance and availability of their sites, applications and business processes.
Q. Is this Spyware?
A. Speed-Trap are certainly not in the business of selling spyware, and take the privacy of the online community very seriously.
Just your site. Our technology is designed to allow the site owner to capture information about how their users interact with their site, the systems can't see anything outside of the pages visitors browse and they certainly can't read the disks on the visitors' machines or record any information about other sites they visit, except that we record which site sent the visitor to the instrumented site.
Secure capture. We encrypt all the data we capture before it is send to the collection systems, so Speed-Trap data is at least as (and typically more) secure than the user's actual browsing.
First party safe. As the Speed-Trap CSA is included by the site itself, you can be sure that the data we capture is only going to the servers for that site, and not being "siphoned" off and sent to unknown locations, this also means that personal firewalls, pop-up blockers etc. are not concerned by Speed-Trap systems as they comply with the browser security rules and do not impact the user's experience.
Legally open. We require all companies who use Speed-Trap software to disclose the data they collect through their privacy policies. So if you want to know what data is being collected and what it is to be used for, just check the site's privacy policy. Here is ours.
Q. What about user's privacy?
A. Secure capture. As noted above the collection mechanisms ensure any captured data is encrypted before dispatch, so it is safe in normal and SSL/secure environments.
Complete control. The system allows the site's owner to define exactly the data they do, or do not, want to collect on a page by page and session by session level. This means that they can implement Speed-Trap systems that will comply with their privacy policy.
User opt-out. Our systems also allow users to control the amount of data collected from them while using an instrumented site. The Collection Servers allow the users to allow normal collection, to restrict it to anonymous information only, or to suppress collection completely. If a site is instrumented with our technology it will normally provide the opportunity for you to opt-out from the data collection process. To control the data we collect from you on this site please follow this link to the collection management page, and choose the level of data collection you feel comfortable with. If a site does not offer an opt-out page directly, then this can normally be reached by using the links provided in the privacy report (P3P) provided from the browser.
Q. Is it legal to collect this data?
A. The principal. Legislation varies from country to country, and we are not lawyers - so we require our customers to ensure that their use of our systems complies with their local legislation. However, the general principals are that providing you tell visitors the data you intend to collect, and tell them what you are going to do with the data and take due care of any personal data you capture then Speed-Trap systems (and typical Customer Experience and Web Analytics systems) are legal. Take a look at our privacy policy to see what we mean.
Opt-out. Even the most stringent legislation is relaxed if users are allowed to opt-out, so our Opt-Out option is very important for both legal and privacy reasons.
